Ladies & Gents... Here's your first look at the Malika - Animated Pilot!
Marvel at these glorious still images!!!
btw - ALL the other rewards MINUS the actual animated film, have been sent out. If you didn't get yours, please email me directly at [email protected]
**MORE IMPORTANT DETAILS BELOW**
We're well underway with the final phase (rendering) of this very long and grueling (but extremely rewarding) process.
But as you can see, we were VERY ambitious with our vision from the jump. And with ambition comes many surprises and setbacks. All of which we've been able to address and will continue to address moving forward.
But I'm going to have to ask for more of your patience. For us to do this right, we need a little more time. We had planned to wrap this up by next week, but with the level of detail, we'll probably need a few more weeks at the most.
I PROMISE. IT WILL BE WELL WORTH THE WAIT.
One last thing. You've probably already heard that we're launching another Kickstarter for the next Malika graphic novel (vol 3 - Fallen Queen Part One) April 30th. My goal was to have this done before then, but that is no longer possible :(
I can assure you that two separate teams are working on each. And the work from one project does not affect the other. But rather than delay the graphic novel series any further (the Kickstarter was supposed to launch two months ago) we decided to proceed simultaneously with both.
For those who love the Malika/YouNeek YouNiverse graphic novels, I sincerely hope we can still count on your support on April 30th. With your preorders/support on the next Kickstarter, we can keep this great series going and do bigger things in the future.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or complaints, you can reach me directly at [email protected] ;)
Update on the Malika animation

Hey guys!
Just wanted to give a quick update.
We're all but done with cloth simulation and hair. And we're moving on to rendering. Which is the final phase.
We're still on track to be done in about 2 weeks.
Thank you so much for your patience.
I'll be sure to send some screenshots early next week just so you can see how things are coming along.
In the meantime, we've gone ahead and sent all the other digital downloads (minus the animation obviously). You may be asking why we didn't send them out sooner?
To be honest, we wanted to finish up the animation first so we could send out all reviews at once.
But better thing to have done would have been to send the digital ones that were ready.
But we didn't, and I want to apologize for that.
I've also sent a bonus (WindMaker - History of Atala) just as my own way of saying sorry.
Please if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask here of email me directly at [email protected]
Thanks.
- Roye
IMPORTANT Malika release date update!
– Tue, Apr 02, 2019 at 09:54:17 PM
Hey guys!
So I know I mentioned we'd be done by end of March but we ran into some issues with cloth and hair simulation :(
Good news is that EVERYTHING else is done. Modelling, animation, lighting, texturing etc. We just hit some road blocks with cloth and hair.
How come? Originally, we had planned on doing basic hair and cloth. But it became clear two weeks in that this project was one of a kind. So everyone on the team agreed that we should shoot for the stars. And we did. And we're almost there.
I beg you to please exercise some more patience as we're working hard to wrap this up within the next 2 - 4 weeks give or take. Please bare with us, I PROMISE it will be worth it. To make it easier, below are some more awesome updates.
Here are some clips from one of the scenes. Remember, this is NOT final and only a pre-visualization (without textures or lighting).
Now remember, the final product (post render) will look more like below. The video above is called a playblast and is a way for the animators to quickly visualize progress.
