Here's Malika's Palace!!!
about 7 years ago – Mon, Mar 11, 2019 at 01:12:01 PM

Hey guys!

Got some really cool stuff to share today.

But before that, a quick update on status.

Animation is done!!! Yay!!!

So right now, it's on to hair, cloth and lighting tests!

Everyone on the team has been working on Malika DAY & NIGHT! Literally!

It's going to be tight, but I think we can still meet the March deadline. We're trying hard to wrap this baby up in the next 2 - 3 weeks.

Speaking of lighting tests, here's a quick look at Malika's palace(Work in progress)!

For inspiration, we took a look at and studied in detail, Queen Amina's Walls!

For those that don't know, Queen Amina was a Hausa warrior queen of the city-state Zazzau (present-day city of Zaria in Kaduna State), in what is now in the north-west region of Nigeria.

Commonly known as the warrior queen, Queen Amina of Zaria was the first woman to become the Sarauniya (queen) in a male-dominated society. She expanded the territory of the Hausa people of north Africa to its largest borders in history.

Because her people were talented metal workers, Amina introduced metal armor, including iron helmets and chain mail, to her army.

Amina is also credited as the architect of the strong earthen walls around her city, which became the prototype for the fortifications used in all Hausa states. She built many of these fortifications, later known as ganuwar Amina or ‘Amina’s walls’, around various conquered cities. Many of these walls remain in existence to this day (as seen above).

If you haven't guessed already, Malika story was inspired by Queen Amina ;)

More Malika updates!!!
about 7 years ago – Fri, Feb 22, 2019 at 04:40:07 PM

Hey, guys!

Just wanted to give a quick update. Animators are still working very hard to wrap up all their scenes. We had some minor hiccups this week, but we're hoping to wrap all animation and lock all the scenes by this weekend (fingers crossed).

After that it's off to lighting tests and sound design. We're still gunning for a March completion.

In the meantime, here are some quick screenshots of work in progress for scene 1 location.

More updates to come next week :)

UPDATE!!! - From concept to production
about 7 years ago – Tue, Feb 12, 2019 at 09:15:21 PM

Hey guys!

Things are moving along quite nicely. It's been a crazy couple months as everyone on the team is working night and day (literarily) to get this thing done by our March deadline.

Check out a sweet update below if you don't care about the ins and outs of the process :)

Right now, the animators are wrapping up all of their shots and they should be done by this weekend (fingers crossed). Once that's done, we'll begin cloth simulation as well as the major work on sound design and score (we started this already with the animatics). We're hoping to begin final rendering by the beginning of March.

Here's a quick update on the throne room. First image is the concept art.
